Veneer Raised Panels

Veneer Raised Panels offer many advantages over traditional solid wood panels.

Better Looking—The best logs are set aside for veneer so they make the best looking panels.  Wide flitches mean fewer glue lines in panel.

More Consistent
—Veneer from one log is kept together so color and grain are more uniform.

Greater Stability—A truly “engineered” product eliminates warp, cup, check and split..

Easier Finishing—Darkening of end grain on panel rise is eliminated without need for filling or sizing.  Stain and sealers are absorbed uniformly.  No worry about “white line” as panels will not shrink or swell throughout seasonal moisture cycle.

Economical—Veneered Raised Panels cost less than solid wood panels of comparable quality.

Ecological—The yield on Veneer is ten times greater than for solid wood helping to conserve valuable timber resources.

Solid Wood Raised Panels

Solid Wood, when nothing but “solid wood” will do.

Traditional—There is a good deal of historical lore and a certain aura surrounding “solid” wood.  The tools and techinques are widely understood even if the material itself can be a bit difficult to control.

Rustic Style—For knots and “character” markings, solid wood is the only way to go.

Wood Movement—Cushioned spacers in the frames of all doors accommodate floating panel movement, but care must be taken in staining to avoid “white line” at frame edge that can result from seasonal movement of solid panels.

Darkening of end grain—Some consider darkening of the end grain on the panel rise to be problem associated with finishing solid wood panels. Others consider it a mark of authenticity. Application of sizing conditioners and extra sanding are methods used to reduce this tendency.

Glue lines—Solid Wood Panels are necessarily laminated from narrower pieces. Care is taken to match color and grain but solid panels are never as consistent as veneer panels. Some like this better
